Sylvan Lake: Grab the kids and go fishing for yellow perch and walleye! This lake is considered one of Alberta’s best boating destinations for families. Try out windsurfing or jetskiing, or drop anchor and go for a swim. Check out the surrounding beaches as a great place for a family picnic.
Long Lake: Enjoy the lake’s glassy waters on a boat, or head to the Long Lake Provincial Park and get your hike on! There are tons of campgrounds on-site with full amenities for the family. Test your skills on a pair of water-skis or cast your lines and try to catch some fish.
Lesser Slave Lake: Many boaters love this lake for its proximity to the nearby bird sanctuary. Avid birdwatchers can go for a float down the lake while keeping their eyes peeled for birds like the yellow warbler. You can also let the wind fill your sails while windsurfing.
Ghost Lake: The Ghost Reservoir Provincial Recreation Area is a water sport lover’s playground! The lake accommodates everything from wakeboarding to windsurfing and everything in between. Explore the hidden coves along the shores to find stunning moorages and generous fishing holes.
Lake Minnewanka: If you’ve been dying to explore Banff by boat, Lake Minnewanka is the only lake in the park that allows powered boating. While boaters are not permitted to use PWCs or waterski equipment, they can explore the beautiful area and anchor to take in some of the most beautiful views in Canda.
Lake Koocanusa: Wildlife lovers will love boating on this lake. The environment hosts dozens of unique species such as muskrats, badgers, owls, and black bears. Fishing is also widely popular and anglers can try their hand at catching some Rocky Mountian whitefish or kokanee
